The Environment Agency recently launched a new website, Visit Anglian Waterways, aimed at highlighting all that the rivers of the Anglian region have to offer.
The new site is packed full of information and features about the rivers Great Ouse, Nene, Stour, Welland and Glen and Ancholme.
Visitors to the Visit Anglian Waterways website will find an invaluable resource. The site links to separate sub-sites for each of the five rivers and provides an official guide to everything people can expect to find ‘down by the riverside’.
Each of the sub-sites includes sections on activities such as boating, fishing, walking and cycling as well as information on places to eat, where to stay and nearby attractions.
Amy Thurlow, of the Environment Agency’s Waterways Development team, has helped to create the website, which was officially launched on 11 November.
She said: “Visit Anglian Waterways aims to promote each of the rivers and ensure that as many people as possible know about what they have to offer.
The rivers are valuable natural assets and we want to see people of all ages enjoying them. The rivers run through some of England’s most beautiful and tranquil countryside as well as a number of historic towns and villages - there is sure to be something to interest almost everyone.
“The new Visit Anglian Waterways website creates a one-stop internet shop for people to find out more. It goes to prove you don’t need to own a boat to enjoy our rivers.”
The Visit Anglian Waterways website can be found at www.visitanglianwaterways.co.uk
From here, visitors can access the sub-sites which can also be found by typing in the following web addresses: www.visitgreatouse.co.uk, www.visitnene.co.uk, www.visitstour.co.uk, www.visitancholme.co.uk and www.visitwelland-glen.co.uk
The sites also include news sections where visitors can find out all the latest happenings on the waterways, as well as maps and links to other useful sites.
There is information about planning a trip on each of the rivers, how to register your boat, locks, useful contacts and available leaflets and other publications of interest. There are also full details of how to get to the rivers via public transport and car in addition to a full guide to interlinking waterways.
Amy said: “Visit Anglian Waterways is a treasure trove of information for anyone interested in spending a day or more by the river. From buying a fishing rod licence to mooring information and tips for first-time boaters, there really is something for everyone.”
The Visit Anglian team would also like to hear from businesses located near the river.
Amy said: “We currently have many businesses listed on the sites, from bed and breakfasts to world-famous attractions. We plan to continue expanding the business types listed in the future to help people make the most of their time on the rivers of the Anglian region.”
Anyone interested in having their business listed on the new website, or updating information already held, should email the Anglian Waterways Membership Scheme at visitanglian@environment-agency.gov.uk
Basic listings are placed free of charge. The site also offers premium listings for a small fee.
